National Consumer Helpline facilitated refunds of over Rs.7 crore for consumers in past two months

The National Consumer Helpline (NCH) has facilitated refund of Rs.7.14 crore to consumers in last two months, the Department of Consumer Affairs stated on Friday. This was achieved across 30 sectors addressing 15,426 consumer grievances related to refund claims.

Notably, the e-commerce sector accounted for the highest volume of grievances, registering 8,919 grievances, and correspondingly, the highest refund facilitation amounting to Rs.3.69 crore. This was followed by the Travel and Tourism sector, which saw refunds of Rs.81 lakh, DoCA noted in a statement. General Insurance sector refunds stood at 41.43 lakh while airline sector refunds were 30.86 lakh. Agency services grievances led to refunds worth Rs.38.41 lakh, while consumers saw refunds worth Rs 1.53 crore for grievances related to other sectors.

The grievances related to e-commerce refunds came from across the country. The highest were (1242) from Uttar Pradesh, Even smaller regions like Sikkim and Dadra & Nagar Haveli registered e-commerce related complaints.

The NCH, a key initiative of the Department of Consumer Affairs, aimed to play a crucial pre-litigation role in resolving consumer grievances swiftly and amicably in a bid to reduce the burden on Consumer Commissions. Between June 1, 2024 and May 31,2025, NCH received over 13.35 lakh grievances from consumers.

The facilitation of Rs.7.14 crore in refunds between April 25 and June 30, 2025 reflects the efficacy and responsiveness of the helpline, driven by the expansion of convergence partners and strong stakeholder engagement. This highlights NCH's vital role in ensuring timely, hassle-free grievance redressal and reinforces its importance as a trusted, pre-litigation platform promoting consumer welfare and marketplace transparency, DoCA said.

Consumers can register their grievances in 17 languages through a toll-free number 1915. Grievances can also be submitted through the Integrated Grievance Redressal Mechanism (INGRAM) besides WhatsApp, SMS, email and the NCH app among others.
